The Stories of the Upstate™ #251: (Taryn Scher) "I danced on the field of Pro Player Stadium during the Orange Bowl when I was in college."

Our 251st story, a GSA Business Report Q&A. comes from the Sparkle Boss (CEO) of TK PR.

"Public relations," a term we've all heard, but probably don't really understand.  Taryn Scher, the CEO of TK PR spells it out for us.  She says public relations is telling the story of a business, often not the obvious story, but the story that gets earned media coverage.  Basically connecting the true story of a business with journalists earnestly seeking true stories.  Need some idea of how TK PR successfully is the bridge between the story and the journalist, check out Euphoria Greenville and VisitGreenvilleSC, you know:  #yeahthatgreenville.

Seven communities along the front face of the Blue Ridge Escarpment that are significantly different than any other planned communities with amenities anywhere else in the United States is how the CEO of Cliffs Land Partners introduces us to The Cliffs.  He describes The Cliffs as a lifestyle, rather than just real estate or housing.  The combination of the unparalleled beauty of the Blue Ridge Escarpment with our delightful temperate year-round climate and the abundant amenities, like golfing, hiking, cycling, etc makes The Cliffs a greatly desired lifestyle. Include a company that is responsible in development, that freely avoids contaminating the streams and waterways, that does not build roads where roads should not be built, that doesn't sacrifice the beautiful flora and fauna that is abundant here just to build more and you can see that The Cliff really does embody it's mission statement: "It's not what we do.  It's where we do it and how we do it."

The Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce is unique in South Carolina.  The President and CEO, Allen Smith tells us that Spartanburg's Chamber of Commerce is the only Chamber in the entire state that houses county wide economic development, county wide tourism promotion and the county chamber.  For Allen, the mission of the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce is to be an agent of change in the lives of the people of the Spartanburg community.  Allen highlights one thing that the Chamber has done to illustrate both their uniqueness and their being an agent of change: the Hub City Farmers Market.  Unlike most communities, the Hub City Farmers Market is not located in the glitzy Main St area.  The Chamber located the Hub City Farmers Market in the most blighted, poverty stricken area of town because it was deemed a food desert, an area where people did not have access to fresh fruits and vegetables.

For most of us, being redundant is not a good quality, but for Frank Mobley, CEO of Immedion, redundancy is everything.  Immedion is a data center and cloud services company that works with local companies, keeping their servers and IT infrastructures up and operational at all times.  The key to Immedion's ability to meet their customers' needs is an infrastructure designed to never fail or fail infrequently and the key to that infrastructure is redundancy: back up uninterruptible power supply systems, multiple high end precision air conditioning systems, multiple connections to the utility grid and back up generators, along with a staff dedicated to making sure that Immedion lives up to their tag line: "Always On!"
